Arseton Villa AFC were established at the beginning of March 2009. A team made up of 7 lads, with ages ranging from early 20′s, to early 30′s. The team was started by a small group of ex-work colleagues that wanted to play footy a bit more regularly for fitness and for fun! That has grown to a bunch of 7 core players that get on well together and have so far achieved, well, not much, but you never know what could happen in the future!!

Arseton Villa 8-4 Q-Stars

Arseton Villa produced a fine second half display to pick up their first win of the season overcoming Q-Stars 8-4. This marked a stark contrast to last season when the team struggled in the latter stages of matches. Without their main defender Jim, who is out for a number of weeks with a double arm break, Arseton started off a mess in defence. Runs were not tracked and silly goals were conceded which meant they trailed 4-3 at half time. The team regrouped during the interval and the second half proved a much better team display with Arseton firing in 5 goals to Q-Stars 0. Barron was the pick of the players scoring six goals including a cheeky lob over the opposition keeper. Other scores included Fritz and Hitches, who was covering for the injured Jim and Mick. Arseton Villa 10-3 Kerona

A lively start to the game from Arseton Villa as they looked to beat top of the table and continue some excellent recent form which has seen them pick up 5 points from a possible 8 in the last 4 matches. They started the game brilliantly, pegging Kerona back in their own half, and sweeping up any attacks Kerona did muster up with absolute ease. Despite this dominance, the game remained 0-0 for the first 5 minutes or so. 2 goals in the space of as many minutes then saw Arseton take the lead. They were by far the better team and played some beautiful football, the Brazil kit the team wear was fitting for the style of football on display. Arseton then saw a flurry of goals, finding themselves 7-0 up with just a couple of minutes of the first half remaining. Kerona did manage to pull a goal back, but at 7-1 Arseton were cruising. The whole team were playing brilliantly, and morale was high, thanks in part to some of Micks purposely comical shooting.

The half time team talk was pretty much “more of the same lads”, and the team did not fail to deliver. Although clearly tiring due to the amount of work everyone had put in, Arseton remained on the upper hand. This half they played a more counter attacking game, defending brilliantly and then breaking with Barron and Mick both bombing forward. Kerona were clearly frustrated at being outbattled and outclassed by their opponents, and this spilled over with Paul having a bit of a scuffle with their centre half with 5 minutes remaining. The centre half claimed Paul had elbowed him in the face, Paul told him to do one and pushed him away, a little scuffle broke out before the ref walked over and separated the scuffle. The centre half’s lip was quivering as he claimed he’d been elbowed in the face, but the ref was having none of it. Paul looked ready for round 2, but, being the bigger man, shook hands with the now near to tears centre half. The second half was much less hectic than the first, Arseton getting just 3 goals to Keronas 2. Andy pulled off the save of the season for Arseton, flinging himself from the ground to flick a goal bound shot away from goal. Goals in the match went to Barron (6), Paul (2), Fritz (1) and Mick (1). Man Of The Match award goes to the entire team for a performance that was of the very, very highest class. Author: Jim

Due to Solid Metal not having a league fixture this week, Arseton Villa were asked to play a friendly following their 10-3 mauling of league leaders Kerona. The Arseton team were extremely tired after giving their all but agreed to play the game. Previous league encounters between the two teams had thrown up very tight games in which the odd goal had decided the outcome. This match would prove to be very similar with the final result ending in another excellent win for Arseton 8-7. All players put in a great performance for the second game in succession, and everyone got themselves on the score sheet including braces for Barron and Andy. Man of the match went to Andy for his best outfield game for the club and his first goals this season.

Arseton Villa 4-6 Solid Metal

With no Kenny G and no goalkeeper the team had to change their shape. It started with Mick covering in goals and Pat on the bench. From the kick off the ball is being passed about well by both teams, Arseton seem to be on the back foot to start. Shots are coming in fast from Solid Metal but nothing is going in yet. Jim slides in to make the tackle of the season. A wild shot from solid metal takes a wicked deflection and ends up in the goal, nothing the defence or the goalkeeper could do about this. Another goal goes in, now Solid Metal have a two goal lead, up steps FT and slots away Pats cross. Half time is 2-1 to Solid Metal. Second half kicks off with Pat going into goals, and Mick gets a quick goal. Arseton are playing well passing the ball very well and have Solid Metal on the back foot, Mick scores another goal and Arston are looking good. Mick searches for his hat trick and hits the post. After some nice link up play from Jon and FT Jim scores a great goal and you can see from his celebration that he is over the moon to score another goal. Paul is playing well in goals and when the ref gives a penalty to Solid Metal everyone thinks they are back in the game but Paul steps up and saves the penalty. All arseton are playing well, confidence is high and you can tell, by the sweet passes that are being done. 3 minutes left and its 4-2 to Arseton, they cant lose it now but then 4 goals go in a matter of minutes that shock everyone and Arseton lose 6-4. The team is shocked and disappointed. In the second game, a friendly against a first division side Arseton are tired and not putting much effort in just playing for a laff. Nothing much to report, Mick and Jon get a goal each. Everyone is looking forward to next weeks game hoping to improve on today’s result. Author: Mick

Arseton Villa 5-0 Claret Blue Army

Arseton Villa were due to play the Divisions new team but unfortunately they were a no show so Arseton gained the default 5-0 win. A friendly game was played instead against Premiership oposition and the team put in a excellent display narrowly losing out 9-8. A great effort by all involved. Author: Fritz

Arseton Villa 7-4 Bimblers

There was a good sense of optimism throughout the team before the match began, due to some excellent recent performances, and picking up a much deserved point last week against Austrey. This rubbed off on the play and the team flew out of the blocks, hitting the post and bar 3 times in the first 5 minutes, but we just couldn’t seem to find the back of the net, and eventually went 1-0 down, against the run of play. JP was giving us an extra dimension that we sometimes lack, firing in powerful and on target shots, as well as having the pace and stamina to cover all areas of the pitch. It was only going to be a matter of time before he scored, and score he did. We went into half time in the lead. We managed to open up a bit of a gap, being 5-2 up in the second half, before Bimblers pulled it back to 6-4. There was a bit of worry throughout the team that a repeat of last week was looming. Myself and Fritz sat deep in defence, and ensured we didn’t concede another goal, before quite late on, JP managed to fire in his 5th, and our 7th of the game to secure the points, Fritz and Captain Paul getting the teams other goals. It was another excellent team performance by all concerned. The team are now looking forward to hopefully stringing a few good results together, and carry on our excellent performances of late. Arseton Villa 4-4 Austrey

A great display by the team, picking up their third point of the season. All players gaining this weeks MOTM. Performances had improved over the last couple of weeks and this was a well deserved point. Could have been better considering the team was 3-0 up with 10 mins remaining but it stops the run of 9 defeats on the bounce and sets up next weeks match against the Bimblers a treat!
